Web Chat

NCEAS has dedicated chat rooms for tech support and general computing questions. You can start chatting immediately by visiting our web interface.

IRC Clients

We recommend the use of the open source IRC program XChat for Linux, and Colloquy for OS X, and Pidgin for Windows.

Recommended

Pidgin Room Setup

  • Open Pidgen
  • Click Add Chat
  • in Channel type add the channels, in order you want them to be seen. ie #nceas-commits,#msi,#nceas,#nceas-admin,#sysnotify
  • Click Autojoin box

Xchat Setup

Select Xchat then Network List to bring up the list of Networks, then Add and Edit to add the NCEAS server.

XChat:

  • The XChat download for Windows from xchat.org is shareware, instead use the link above download a free version.
  • A list of all windows xchat builds: http://b0at.tx0.org/xchat/

mIRC:

  • mIRC is an excellent IRC program for Windows, but is shareware, and cannot legally be used for more than 30 days without being purchased.
