Windows (XP, 2000)

Flash Demos:

Connect using your Windows XP username and password
Connect using a username or password different than your Windows XP account

  1.  Right click on "My Computer"
2. Click "Map Network Drive..."
3. Choose an unused drive letter (the default is fine), and in the empty box marked "Folder:" enter "\\jupiter\homes"
4a. If you are logged into your personal account on Windows (ie. NOT visitor), hit Finish --otherwise-- 4b. uncheck "reconnect at logon"
5. Click "Connect using a different user name" and enter your username and password, Click "OK".
6. Click Finish

Mac OS X

Flash Demo: Connect using OS X 10.3 (Panther)

  1. On the Finder menu bar, click "Go", then "Connect to Server..."
2. Type in the server name (ie. smb://jupiter/homes)
3. Click OK, enter your username and password, and click OK again

Other Methods

Ubuntu using SSHFS
1. run "apt-get install sshfs"
2. mount the directory, for example:

sshfs brand@jupiter.nceas.ucsb.edu:/data/computer/brand/ /mnt/jupiter
(to find your home directory, login to the server and type "pwd")

   Using Gnome
1. Open a file window
2. Click File, choose "Connect to server"
3. Under the service type, choose "Windows Share", enter the computer name (jupiter), share name (homes), and user name (gates)
4. An icon with the share name will appear on the desktop and under "Computer", opening it will present a password field.
5. Enter the password and hit ok
   Using KDE
   1. Open Konqueror
   2. In the address bar, type the address you wish to connect to with fish and your username, ie:
     fish://username@jupiter.nceas.ucsb.edu/
