NCEAS Chat Room Setup

The NCEAS chat room is located at irc.ecoinformatics.org/6667
Ecologists have their own dedicated channel for tech questions or any other uses called #nceas-eco
We recommend the use of the open source IRC program XChat. XChat is available for Windows, OS X, and Linux.

Linux: (your linux distro should already have XChat, if not: http://www.xchat.org/download/ )

Rooms

Select Xchat then Network List to bring up the list of Networks, then Add and Edit to add the NCEAS server.

Chatzilla plugin for Firefox:

XChat:
- The XChat download for Windows from xchat.org is shareware, instead use the link above download a free version.

mIRC:
- mIRC is an excellent IRC program for Windows, but is shareware, and cannot legally be used for more than 30 days without being purchased.
OS X:
- There are other IRC applications for OS X that have not been evaluated, such as Colloquy.
