Remote Desktop on OS X
Enabling Screen Sharing
- System Preferences → Sharing
- Check the box next to Screen Sharing
- Set Allow access for: your user account only
- For connecting from Windows it is necessary to: Click Computer Settings… → check the box for VNC Viewers… and set a password
Connecting from Windows
- Download and install a VNC viewer, such as:
- Start the VNC viewer
- Enter your hostname and port number (i.e. hostname.nceas.ucsb.edu:5900)
- Enter the VNC viewer password
Connecting from OS X
- Finder → Go → Connect to Server…
- vnc://hostname.nceas.ucsb.edu/
- Enter username and password
