System Preferences → Sharing
Check the box next to
Screen Sharing
Set
Allow access for:
your user account only
For connecting from Windows it is necessary to: Click
Computer Settings…
→ check the box for
VNC Viewers
… and set a password
Connecting from Windows
Download and install a VNC viewer, such as:
RealVNC Free Edition
UltraVNC
Start the VNC viewer
Enter your hostname and port number (i.e. hostname.nceas.ucsb.edu:5900)
Enter the VNC viewer password
Connecting from OS X
Finder → Go → Connect to Server…
vnc://
hostname
.nceas.ucsb.edu/
